April 5, 2009

We had an abbreviated IONS session since the weather was so outstanding on Sunday. (We considered moving the meeting outside, but half of the city was on the waterfront enjoying the sunshine!)

Sheree introduced the topic of "belief systems" by discussing the prevailing theory of where they come from -- we learn them as very small children and then subconsciously create experiences to match those beliefs throughout our life. Belief systems are the framework of how we view the world, what our role is, and usually includes some kind of structure to support a spiritual understanding. Alternative belief systems are presented to us throughout our lives, so as we mature in our understandings, belief systems become choices or preferences. Dean Radin’s research in 2003 (IONS Shift, May 2005) led to a theory that those people with "unlocked belief systems" were more open to new ideas that might move them toward transpersonal experiences and creative possibilities with regard to spiritual awareness and change.

We talked about the current "great awakening" prophesied in many ancient texts, and that what we are really referring to is the need to free ourselves of historical ideas and fearful concepts that keep us locked into war, poverty, hunger, disease, and the structures that support those fears. When we focus on structures of old ideas (and even religions), we siphon off the energy for awareness and new thought.

The fundamental change in this age is a shift from self-consciousness toward soul-consciousness -- a recognition that we are all "ONE" in spirit. Sheree mentioned that there’s a wonderful description of the need for moving into soul awareness in the interview published in the most recent IONS Shift (Spring 2009) magazine.

The IONS meeting finished with a meditation on merging our individual energy fields into a group field using an "ocean meditation."
