September, 2000

In September of 2000, I attended the first Body, Mind and Spirit Conference in Bellevue, Washington. When I reviewed my notes from that experience, I found that many of the lessons I learned there have become truths I've revisited many times in the ensuing seven years, both in IONS meetings, and in life in general. Here's an encapsulated visit to just three of the presenters from that conference.

Wayne Dyer, the keynote speaker, talked about how thinking positive thoughts could help people accomplish just about anything. Who would have guessed he’d be followed seven years later by Lynn McTaggart’s THE INTENTION EXPERIMENT, much less THE SECRET?

Norm Shealy, M.D., Ph.D., neurosurgeon, had been working with Carolyn Myss for some time when he appeared at this conference. I was able to learn more about this amazing man: he started performing acupuncture in the 1950's. He believes that chemical, physical, emotional, electromagnetic illnesses have their roots in stress. (Seventy five percent of visits to doctor’s offices are due to stress, he says.) "Electrotherapy" (micro current) therapy, he claimed, can cure just about anything when applied to specific acupuncture points. Our DNA is bombarded with artificial energy which leads to electromagnetic imbalance. For instance, he stated that there are 230,000,000 times more radio waves in the atmosphere than there were 70 years ago, and that is not counting TV and radar…nor is it taking into consideration cell phones, ipods, and other gadgets invented since 2000. And he said that depression is prevalent in all chronic diseases. I think we could have guessed that, but hearing him declare it gave the idea more credence.

Dietrich Klinghardt, M.D., Ph.D., also an energy medicine proponent, sees his work as encompassing four levels: 1) physical body (chemistry and mechanics); 2) electromagnetic body (emotions); 3) mental body (belief system, attitudes; and 4) intuitive body (trance, dreams, subconscious.) Having focused his research on detoxing the body from heavy metals, which he believes are the source of most chronic diseases, he uses a "bioresonance" machine (see Shealy, above) to clear toxins from the body, saying a mercury detox can lead to mental and spiritual well being.

Being in Dr. Klinghardt's workshop changed my life. He believes that illness often comes to someone who unconsciously identifies with a relative/ancestor pushed out of the family. I began my own journey to learn more about and finally become a facilitator of family constellations after having attended his workshop. He explained how the soul of our family attempts to balance itself. The grandchildren of Nazis, for instance, have proven to be physically ill, underachievers, drug users, etc: they took on the victim consciousness of their grandparents' war crimes. Healing comes from acknowledging the victim and giving space for the family love to flow again, he declared. He gave a demonstration at his workshop of how a constellation works. The year after this, we had a family constellation demonstration at one of the IONS meetings.
